THE BOOK OF ROMANS (CHAPTER 16)

SALUTATIONS TO THE MEN AND WOMEN GOD HAS CHOSEN TO BRING FORTH HIS MESSAGE.

Romans 16:1 I commend unto Phebe (BRIGHT OR PURE) our sister, which is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea:

PHEBE WAS THE ONE THAT TOOK PAUL'S LETTER TO ROME.

HER NAME (PHEBE IS FROM PHOEBUS, OTHERWISE APOLLO, THE SUN-god) INDICATES A CONVERT FROM PAGANISM.

16:2 That ye receive her in the Lord, as becometh saints, and that ye assist her in whatsoever business she hath need of you: for she hath been a succourer (PROTECTOR IN THE GREEK) of many, and of myself also.

PHEBE WAS A LEADER IN THE CHURCH.

16:3 Greet Priscilla and Aquila my helpers in Christ Jesus:

PRISCILLA WAS THE TEACHER OF THE WORD, HER HUSBAND AQUILA JUST ASSISTED HER.

16:4 Who have for my life laid down their own necks: unto whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles.

16:5 Likewise greet the church that is their house. Salute my well beloved Epenetus, who is the firstfruits of Achaia unto Christ.

16:6 Greet Mary (MARIAM= the only Hebrew name on the list), who bestowed much labor on us.

16:7 Salute Andronicus and Junia, my kinsmen, and my fellow prisoners (BECAUSE THEY TAUGHT GOD'S WORD), who are of note among the apostles, who also were in Christ before me.

16:8 Greet Amplias my beloved in the Lord.

16:9 Salute Urbane (A LATIN NAME), our helper in Christ, and Stachys my beloved.

16:10 Salute Apelles (A GREEK NAME FREQUENTLY ADOPTED BY JEWS) approved in Christ. Salute them which are of Aristobulus' household.

ARISTOBULUS HIMSELF MAY NOT HAVE BEEN A CHRISTIAN, AND THOSE REFERRED TO MAY HAVE BEEN OF HIS FAMILY, OR SLAVES.

16:11 Salute Herodion my kinsman. Greet them that be of the household of Narcissus, which are in the Lord.

16:12 Salute Tryphena and Tryphosa (FEMALE NAMES), who labor in the Lord. Salute the beloved Persis (GREEK FEMALE NAME), which labored much in the Lord.

16:13 Salute Rufus (LATIN NAME) chosen in the Lord, and his mother and mine.

16:14 Salute Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermas, Patrobas, Hermes, and the brethren which are with them.

16:15 Salute Philologus, and Julia, Nereus, and his sister, and Olympas, and all the saints which are with them.

16:16 Salute one another with an holy kiss. The churches of Christ salute you.

THE KISS WAS, AND IS, IN THE MIDDLE EAST A SIGN OF RESPECT AND AFFECTION.

16:17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them (OBSERVE THEM CLOSELY) which cause division and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.

AVOID THE ONES WHO TEACH THEIR OWN DOCTRINES AND CAUSE DIVISIONS.

16:18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple (INNOCENT).

THEY CAN LEAD ASTRAY MANY BY TEACHING THEIR OWN DOCTRINES.

16:19 For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil.

EVIL CAN COME IN IF YOU ARE NOT CAREFUL.

16:20 And the God of peace shall bruise Satan (CRUSH IN PIECES, OR UTTERLY. MAKE A NOTE OF GENESIS 3:15) under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.

EACH ONE OF PAUL'S EPISTLES ENDS WITH A BENEDICTORY PRAYER THAT "GRACE" MAYBE WITH CHURCHES AND INDIVIDUALS ALIKE.

16:21 Timotheus my work fellow, and Lucius (LUKE), and Jason, and Socipater, my kinsmen, salute you.

16:22 I Tertius (PAUL'S SCRIBE. THE ONE WHO WROTE THE EPISTLES BECAUSE PAUL'S SIGHT WAS POOR AFTER HE WAS STRUCK DOWN ON THE WAY TO DAMASCUS), who wrote this epistle, salute you in the Lord.

16:23 Gaius mine host, and of the whole church, saluteth you. Erastus the chamberlain of the city saluteth you, and Quartus a brother.

16:24 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

16:25 Now to Him That is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery (MATT. 13:35), which was kept secret (KEPT IN SILENCE) since the world began,

16:26 But now is made manifest (KNOWN), and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:

FAITH COMES FROM HEARING THE WORD OF GOD.

16:27 To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ forever. Amen.

GOD BLESS
