TITHES AND OFFERINGS

                        The subject in todays' study is : TITHES AND OFFERINGS

The purpose of this study is to help people determined the difference between TITHES AND OFFERINGS.

There are many deceivers in this world that prey on each individual's weakness.

God does not beg, and He will never demand from an individual that has a very limited income to pay ten percent from money he doesn't have.

LET'S GO TO THE WORD.

Deuteronomy 26:12    When thou hast made an end of tithing all the tithes of thine increase the third year which is the year of tithing, and hast given it unto the Levite, the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, that they may eat within thy gates, and be filled ;

TITHES = IT MEANS TEN PERCENT OF YOUR EARNINGS.

HOWEVER, AT THE TIME OF THIS WRITING THE PRIESTHOOD WAS ALSO THE GOVERNMENT.

EVERY THIRD YEAR THEY TOOK TITHING FOR INSURANCE TO PROTECT THE NATION (something like social security).

LET'S GO TO THE MINOR PROPHETS.

Malachi 3:8   Will a man rob God ? Yet ye have robbed Me. But ye say, 'Wherein have we robbed Thee ?'  In tithes and offerings.

IF YOU TITHE TO THE WRONG CHURCH YOU ARE ROBBING GOD.

3:9   Ye are cursed with a curse : for ye have robbed Me, even this whole nation.

3:10   Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in Mine house, and prove Me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

MEAT = HIS WORD.

THE PURPOSE OF TITHING IS FOR GOD'S WORD TO BE TAUGHT IN HIS HOUSE.

IF A CHURCH TEACHES HIS WORD (NOT MEN'S DOCTRINES AND TRADITIONS), IT WILL BE BLESSED.

LET'S GO TO THE BOOK OF MARK.

Mark 12:38   And He said unto them in His doctrine,

"Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the market places,

12:39   And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms of feasts :

THE SCRIBES AND PHARISEES WERE THE RELIGIOUS LEADERS OF THE TIME.

BEWARE OF ANY RELIGIOUS LEADER WHO LIKES TO PLAY CHURCH.

12:40    Which devour windows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers : these shall receive greater damnation."

IN OTHER WORDS, THEY RIP THEM OFF AND TAKE THEIR MONEY.

THEY PRETEND TO PRAY AND TAKE THEIR MONEY.

12:41    And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury : and many that were rich cast in much.

12:42   And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing,

SHE PUT IN VERY LITTLE.

12:43   And He called unto Him His disciples, and saith unto them, "Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury :

THIS POOR WIDOW GAVE EVERYTHING SHE HAD.

12:44    For all they did cast in of their abundance ; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living."

GOD PAYED ATTENTION TO THAT WIDOW AND HE DID TAKE CARE OF HER.

IT SHOWS HER FAITH.

LET'S END OUR STUDY WITH II CORINTHIANS 9.

II Corinthians 9:6    But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly ; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

9:7    Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give ; not grudgingly, or of necessity : for God loveth a cheerful giver.

GOD BELIEVES IN EQUALITY. IN GOD'S EYES, IT'S THE SAME IF A PERSON CAN TITHE VERY LITTLE OR A LOT.

YOU GIVE TO GOD WHAT YOU CAN.  HOWEVER, IT HAS TO COME FROM THE HEART; YOU HAVE TO WANT TO DO IT, NOT PUSHED.

SUMMARY :  GOD EXPECTS YOU TO TITHE TO A CHURCH THAT TEACHES YOU HIS WORD, NOT THEIRS.

THE TEN PERCENT TITHES WAS SET, BECAUSE, THE RELIGIOUS LEADERS WERE ALSO THE GOVERNMENT.

YOU TITHE WHATEVER YOU CAN ; DO NOT FALL VICTIM TO MONEY HUNGRY PREACHERS.

THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TITHES AND OFFERINGS.

TITHES YOU PAY TO THE CHURCH SO GOD'S WORD CAN BE TAUGHT.

CHARITY ARE OFFERINGS.

IN OTHER WORDS, WHEN YOU FEED THE HUNGRY, OR HELP A HOSPITAL WITH ILL CHILDREN, YOU ARE MAKING A LOVE OFFERING.
